1Title:  Zenas Ball Family Papers     
 Creator:  Ball, Zenas Family 
 Dates:  1803-1978 
 Abstract:  Zenas Ball moved from New Jersey to a farm in Knox County, Ohio, in 1819. His son Aaron was the father of Webb C. and F. Grant Ball. Webb C. was the owner of the Webb. C. Ball Co. and the Ball Time Inspection Service. F. Grant was a jeweler, violin maker and family historian of the Ball International Union. The collection consists of genealogical material, correspondence, wills, newspaper clippings and certificates, biographies and obituaries of Webb C. Ball, Morris Township school registers and a road tax list, and papers of the Ball International Union, the Webb C. Ball Co., and the Ball Time Inspection Service.

 Abstract:  Alexander Bunts was a Cleveland, Ohio, neurosurgeon, amateur historian, and Trustee of the Western Reserve Historical Society. He traced his descent from Virgil C. Taylor, an American Civil War soldier and Cleveland realtor, and from Levi Johnson, an early settler of Cleveland. The collection consists of correspondence, diaries, genealogies, autograph books and scrapbooks of Bunts family members, and several monographs collected by Dr. Bunts.

 Abstract:  Virgil Corydon Taylor (1838-1924) was a realtor, banker, and proprietor of V.C. Taylor & Son, a Cleveland, Ohio, real estate firm (est. 1872). The collection consists of biographical sketches, a diary, a speech, wills, family genealogies and related correspondence, account books of Taylor's real estate firm and the Cherry Run Security Oil Company, and material related to the Soldiers and Sailors Monument, Cleveland.

4Title:  Arthur and Murtis Taylor Family Papers     
 Creator:  Taylor, Arthur and Murtis Family 
 Dates:  1895-1979 
 Abstract:  Arthur and Murtis Taylor were community leaders active in Cleveland, Ohio, African American organizations. They both worked at Karamu House and Outhwaite Homes Housing Project. Arthur then became an insurance underwriter and Murtis became director of Mount Pleasant Community Center and coordinator of the Federation for Community Planning's Project on Aging. Their son Bruce was a biomedical engineer researching artificial arteries at Akron City Hospital. Their son Howard became associate professor of sociology at Syracuse University in 1969. The entire family was named Outstanding Family of the Year in 1968 by the Urban League. The collection includes biographical items, correspondence, clippings, writings by Murtis, Bruce, and especially, Howard F. Taylor, and miscellany, including a marriage license, programs and certificates. The collection pertains largely to the careers and community activities of a Cleveland Afro-American family and includes some materials on social work, sociology, and medicine. Included is Howard's dissertation: Balance and tension in the two-person group.
